Appropriate technology
Intermediate or appropriate technology was described by Fritz Schumacher in his book ‘Small is beautiful: Economics as if people mattered’ in the early 1970’s. Appropriate technology can refer to any techniques, tools and technologies designed to be small scale, energy efficient, local, easily made or implemented, and most importantly appropriate to its contexts use. In Permaculture this includes rocket stoves, small scale hydro or wind generators, off grid solar, low tech energy storage, and passive solar.
