Consultants - Permaculture Consultancy

The Permaculture consultation begins by meeting with clients to discuss the site, including the sites history, the clients vision for the property, their particular needs or intentions, and a budget/time scale.

Consultation is verbal, the client is responsible for taking down any information you share with them. You are not required to write down information or produce a concept sketch. However, an on site design concept sketch or mud map taking into account your site analysis and the clients brief, can be an excellent way to put across your ideas.

Analysis of the site includes:

  • Physical topography
  • Biological aspects (flora, fauna, and soil).
  • Water resources
  • Waste systems
  • Energy systems
  • Infrastructure and access
  • Sun aspect and climatic factors

Post-consultation you will be required to write a brief one page report on your day’s consultation for permacultureconsultancy.com for documentation, this will later be invaluable for your career portfolio/CV and or Permaculture diploma.

 Consultation process-

 Off site pre-consultation

After you confirm a job offer and prior to consultancy, you will be provided with an address location, google/ google earth maps or any other information relevant to your consultancy. Some time spent looking over this material or any extra research, will be invaluable for when you carry out the consultancy.

Consultancy is either:

  • Half day consultancy (maximum 5 hours total time with a maximum one hour travel to and from site included in the 5 hours, for example 3 hours on site, 2 hours travel or 4 hours on site and 1 hours travel. Travel time exceeding 1 hour one way will incur extra travel costs for the client).
  • Full day consultancy (maximum 10 hours total time with a maximum one hour travel to and from site included in the 10 hours, for example maximum 8 hours on site, 2 hours travel. Travel time exceeding this will incur extra travel costs for the client).

On site consultation

The consultation process begins by meeting with the client/s to discuss the site, including the history, the clients vision for the property, their particular needs or intentions, and a budget/time scale.

On site analysis

This is where you analyse the site (this will take up most of your time and is the most critical aspect of the consultancy). Site attributes to be assessed include the physical landform, sun aspect, biological aspects (flora, fauna, soil), buildings, and climatic factors. If design limitations become present, you will need to be creative to come up with effective solutions to offer to the client, in place of the original brief.

This is a verbal consultancy, the client is responsible for taking down any information you share with them. You are not required to write down information or produce a concept sketch, however an on site design concept sketch or mud map taking into account your site assessment and the clients brief, can be an excellent way to put across your ideas.

Lastly you can discuss with the client if they are satisfied with the consultancy and if they wish for further direction, such as a timeline for implementation and maintenance.
